This month we are celebrating our local pharmacists. From communicating with patients and physicians to filling prescriptions and keeping track of inventory, there’s no doubt the life of a pharmacist is busy busy busy. We were fortunate enough that Jonathan was able to squeeze us in for a little chat about why he enjoys the pharmacy life in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
What made you decide to become a pharmacist?
I had decided to go to SDSU and pharmacy was one of their programs. I really felt like it was a degree I could use.
What do you love about working in Aberdeen?
I was born and raised here, so everything is familiar. It’s been really fun watching it grow, especially in the past few years.
Why did you choose to work at Aberdeen Medical Center Pharmacy?
I chose to work at AMCP because it gives me an opportunity to reach many people in different locations. Also, because we are independently owned, we actually have a say and get to be heard in different situations. Our input matters.
What do you love about your job?
Getting to see the difference we make first hand. It’s encouraging when someone comes up to me and says that I helped them.
Are there any new changes coming to the pharmacy community that people should know about?
The pharmacy community is constantly evolving as far as what kind of medications are out there. It’s important to know that you need to regularly check with your physician to make sure your current meds are still working for you and are the best option.
